Nigerian Meat pie

This Nigerian delicacy is used extensively for snack time and quick fix. Well the luscious dish is certainly surpassed with the vegetarian touch of carrots and potatoes along with the tender and extraordinarily gentle palate of minced beef. If prepared figuratively, the relishing cuisine will add a new chapter of favorites to your food list. The alluring texture and aroma will resist you to sit idle! So it is the time for all the food lovers and explorers to enhance the relish of your taste buds with this distinguished Nigerian snack.

Ingredients Required:

  • 2 carrots

  • 2 potatoes

  • 500 gm Beef Mince

  • 1 kg self-rising flour

  • ½ tbsp. nutmeg powder

  • 500gm baking butter

  • ¼ tbsp. baking powder

  • ¼ tbsp. thyme

  • ¼ tbsp. salt

  • ½ tbsp. all-purpose season

  • 250 ml water

  • 100 ml vegetable oil

Method

  • Aggregate self-rising flour, nutmeg powder, baking powder in a sizeable bowl.

  • To the bowl, scoop the stipulated amount of baking butter/margarine and whisk it properly using your hands until the mixture turns to crumbs.

  • Now pour some water to gradually turn over the mixture to a stiff ball of dough.

  • Knead the dough very well and test the prepared dough by having your finger impression on it.

  • Envelope the dough ball with a foil or sheath and place it in fridge for 30 minutes.

  • Now finely chunk the potatoes and carrots.

  • In a frying pan, add vegetable oil and heat it on a medium flame.

  • Toss the contents of beef mince and add sprinkle thyme, all-purpose season and salt atop it and mix it vigorously.

  • Optional addition of condiments and spices is preferred.

  • It is strictly advised to devoid your mince beef of onions and curry, as they do not include the traditional part of Nigerian Meat pie.

  • Let the mixture simmer for 1-2 minutes with stove set to medium flame.

  • It’s time to add chopped potatoes and carrots to tendered mince beef and agitate it using cooking spoon.

  • Pour a heterogeneous and aqueous solution of 25 gm flour with water into the frying pot. The tip is to avoid drying of meat pie filling during baking.

  • Vigorously stir the contents in the pan and allow it to simmer for another 15 minutes.

  • After the mince has been cooked, set it aside to completely cool down.

  • Twist over to the dough that has been prepared and knead it even more.

  • Crack eggs in a bowl to use the albumin part.

  • Tear out some dough and roll it on using a roller to place it over a pie cutter.

  • Stuff the mince beef filling and brush the outer portion of the dough roll with crackled egg solution.

  • Now close the cutter to overlap both the ends of the dough roll and eradicate the excess outside dough.

  • Take out the designed shape and situate it in a large tray oiled/greased with butter.

  • Apply albumin with the help of a brush on the exposed part of the meat pie.

  • Follow the steps 18, 19,20,21,22 for making more meat pies.

  • In a preheated oven to 180 C, set the tray containing the meat pies and bake for 30 minutes.

  • After the passage of the estimated time, gently toss the pies other way round and again bake them for another 10 minutes.

  • Check if the delicious cuisine is completely done until it turns light brown.
